Here we go! On my way to Jokkmokk. Not really a crowd getting on the bus in Gällivare. I was the only one getting on board! So I have the entire bus for myself.

Taking a short break in the cabin to prepare some food. Freeze dried chicken with rice and almonds in curry sauce.
So far, so good. I started the hike with a short boat ride from the boat landing in Kvikkjokk over Sakkat to Mallenjarka. I had ordered the boat ride in advance, and it worked out perfectly. I barely made it down from the bus stop before the boat showed up at the landing.
The trail started at the edge of the forest close to the homestead at Mallenjarka. It was a little bit difficult to find the start of the trail. It was poorly marked, and the first part crossing the field did not seem to have been heaviliy used. It showed to be a presentiment of the condition of the trail throughout the first section of the trail.
It was steeply uphill through the fir forest. But there was a light refreshing breeze, and there were not a lot of mosquitos. On the way up I passed two plateaus. The first plateau was covered by birch trees. The second plateau looked somewhat strange with meadows covered by tiny junipers. The trail then crossed a bog before the bridge crossing Tsielejåkk.
It has been sunny the entire day. I am continuing after dinner. Just hiking this far feels as a little bit short a day segment, even though it is my first day on the trail.

I continued a couple of more hours and struggled my way up though the pass at Suoŋergårsså. It was strenous walking uphill and there were still snow pockets left on the slope. The trail was poorly marked, and I had to stay west of the winter trail markers when I got up over the crest.
