Adventures in Nuuk

Nuuk is a mix of traditions, modernity, and adventures, whether you are downtown or in the beautiful fjords. As a capital city, Nuuk is a haven for sportspeople and culture lovers. In Nuuk’s hinterland, you find the world’s second-largest fjord system, which is a huge playground for the locals. You should try it, too!

Try sailing, hiking, kayaking, SUPing, fishing, running, golfing, and ball games. You can go to gyms, practice yoga and cross-fit, and even go for a swim. Inuit sports are also popular in Nuuk. These are various sports that provide strength and endurance and have been cultivated by Inuit over centuries.

Winter Sports

Nuuk is a fantastic winter sports destination. Take the airport bus, and 15 minutes later, you’ll be at the base of a ski area with three lifts. Skiing and snowboarding are popular activities, and the sound of snowmobiles may be heard outside of town. If you enjoy cross-country skiing, the town has numerous decent trails.

In Nuuk, you find our National Museum, and we also have Katuaq, the cultural house of Greenland. Concerts, theater performances, movies, and exhibitions are common events here. Nuuk is traditional Greenlandic polka music, and we love our slow hymns – but Nuuk is also classical music, hip-hop, and techno.

You find great restaurants and cafes in Nuuk. Sarfalik serves Greenlandic cuisine with Nordic and Asian influences. Greenlandic sushi is available at the Thai restaurant Charoen Porn. You don’t have to go far out of  Nuuk to experience amazing tranquility. A hike behind the airport and the nearby fjord system will give you that sense. The fjord system, the second largest in the world, is green and warm in summer, and it’s a spectacular sight in the winter with the tall mountains and cliffs blanketed in snow.

A whale photo safari is a must, as are boat journeys to the historic communities near Nuuk. Humpback whales and minke whales are frequently seen around Nuuk. An hour’s sailing from Nuuk, you’ll find Qooqqut Nuan’ Restaurant, serving amazing food. You can go on a boat trip and catch what will be put on your plate later!
