Take a small break and visit the abandoned village Qoornoq
We sail towards the ice fjord, where there is often a lot of ice!
On the way back, we sail past the abandoned village of Qoornoq – 60 km inside Godthåbsfjorden, which is the second largest fjord in the world.
Qoornoq was once inhabited by cod fishermen and their families. A cod factory/landing site, a beautiful church, and everything else that was needed at the time were built there.
Unfortunately, there was a significant decline in the cod population, and Qoornoq was abandoned as a village in 1972. Today, the village is a popular summer cottage area, and many of Nuuk’s citizens have spent their childhood summers here.
The boat trip there is really beautiful, and from Qoornoq there is a wonderful view of the Ice Fjord.
Take a walk through the abandoned village and see the abandoned houses and the old fish factory.
