Luxury Trip to Eqi

The Eqi Glacier—known in Greenlandic as Eqip Sermia—is a rare natural wonder: the only calving glacier in Greenland accessible by boat. Located approximately 80 km north of Ilulissat, Eqi doesn’t produce the massive icebergs seen elsewhere, but it offers something equally spectacular. Here, you can get remarkably close to the glacier’s towering front and witness the dramatic sights and sounds of ice crashing into the sea. The thunderous booms and deep rumbles create an unforgettable sensory experience.

As we sail toward the glacier, the journey itself is breathtaking. We pass the charming village of Oqaatsut, abandoned settlements steeped in history, steep mountain cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and icebergs of all shapes, sizes, and hues. With a bit of luck, seals and whales may make an appearance along the way.

One of the most awe-inspiring moments comes as we round the final mountain bend—revealing two glaciers and the vast expanse of the Inland Ice, stretching endlessly into the horizon.

We approach the glacier safely, maintaining a respectful distance that allows us to fully enjoy the spectacle of calving ice. During the trip, you’ll be treated to a gourmet lunch prepared by the renowned chefs of Hotel Arctic, adding a touch of luxury to this extraordinary adventure.

Duration: 5-6 hours.

Participants: Please note that the excursion will only take place if a minimum of 4 tickets are booked in total. For example, if you book 2 tickets, at least 2 additional tickets must be sold to other customers for the trip to proceed. A maximum of 8 people will participate.

Language: The guide/captain speaks English, Danish, and Greenlandic.

Boat Type: closed boat.

Toilet Facilities: There is a toilet aboard.

Catering: Coffee and tea served aboard.

Recommended Clothing: Warm clothes incl. hat, gloves all year. Sunglasses. Sunscreen during summer.
