Take a short trip and enjoy the sight of the beautiful baleen whales in Godthåbsfjorden
On our whale safari trip in Godthåbsfjorden, you may be lucky enough to see the majestic baleen whale, namely the humpback whale, which is in Greenland from around the beginning of June to the end of September to feed on krill and other small fish. The females breed during the winter months. Therefore, you will often see a female and her calf swimming together during the summer.
The humpback whale is characterized by its humped dorsal fin and beautiful tail, which is like its DNA. For example, the same humpback whale has been seen swimming around Nuuk Fjord since the 1980s, based solely on the markings on its tail.
Humpback whales may, of their own accord, come very close to boats and play a little. This is probably because the Nuuk area is the only place in Greenland where humpback whales are actually protected and may be more welcoming than elsewhere.
