The Capital Region - A modern center surrounded by mountains
Disko Bay is home to the Ilulissat Ice Fjord with its UNESCO World Heritage, the lush Disko Island with its volcanic mountains, Eqi Glacier, and a handful of other towns and settlements. It comes as no surprise that, with all these highlights, Disko Bay is the most popular destination in Greenland.
Nuuk
Nuuk is Greenland’s capital and largest city with its 19,000 inhabitants. The city is a vibrant cultural center and no matter where you are in Nuuk, the view is dominated by mountains. As a capital, Nuuk is something very special – From the modern center of the city, it is only a short walk to one of the world’s largest fjord systems, and a 10-minute drive will take you to the foot of the high mountains that lie at the entrance to the wilderness.
Paamiut
Paamiut is a small settlement in South Greenland which, among other things, houses the country’s largest population of sea eagles. Compared to several other cities and settlements in Greenland, Paamiut is not so well visited by tourists as other places in Greenland, which makes it the dream destination for those of you who love to have nature to yourself. The people of Paamiut are friendly and welcoming and will be happy to point you in the direction of a beautiful hiking route.
Qeqertarsuatsiaat
The village of Qeqertarsuatsiaat is located midway between Nuuk and Paamiut. The village is located on a small island just off the coast and has around 200 inhabitants, who primarily make their living hunting and fishing.
Kapisillit
Although Kapisillit is the largest village in Greenland, it is the perfect place to relax and let your mind wander. Kapisillit is located at the far end of Nuuk Fjord, and the view over the icebergs in the fjord is absolutely unique. There are many beautiful hiking trails in the area, and during August and September you can fish for the special kind of salmon that live in the river just outside the town.
