Great experiences in the Arctic Circle Region
The Arctic Circle region is also known as the polar circle and the middle region, and it holds a wealth of fantastic experiences. Among other things, this is the only place where you will find a way into Greenland’s ice sheet.
In addition to standing and walking on the ice sheet, you can experience skiing, fishing, sailing trips, dog sledding, hunting and hiking. The only limit is your imagination, and if you’re looking for adventure, the Arctic Circle region is the destination for you.
The region covers Kangerlussuaq, Sisimiut, Maniitsoq and Kangaatsiaq. Sisimiut is Greenland’s second largest city, and here you can experience, among other things, the Arctic Circle Race, known as the world’s hardest cross-country race.
Towns and Lodges
There are four towns in the Arctic Circle region. Between Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut you will find Greenland’s third UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Inuit hunting area Aasivissuit-Nipisat, which bears witness to more than 4,000 years of human history.
Hiking routes of all levels of difficulty
In the Arctic Circle region you will find hiking routes of all levels of difficulty. There are both city walks and hikes up in the mountains, where you can enjoy the most magnificent views. Experience the Greenlandic culture up close and come face to face with the wild nature.
Dog sledding
It is something very special to experience Greenland’s nature from a dog sled. The white snow and the dogs’ rhythmic paws form the background for a fantastic sensory experience. Since the trip is slower than snowmobiles and skis, you have more time to soak up all the impressions. Come along and become part of the classic way of experiencing arctic nature.
Sailing tours
Traveling by boat is a way of life in Greenland, and for those of you who visit the Arctic Circle region, sailing tours make it possible to experience a whole new world of fjords, whales and villages. Although summer is high season, sailing trips are possible all year round, if the weather permits.
Inuit culture
In Greenland, people have lived under extreme arctic conditions for millennia, and this is reflected in both the language, culture and social conditions. In the small villages, you can pass by and visit on your journey, the traditions and the fishing and hunting culture still live on.
