If you’re into hiking, The “Old Mail Route”-hike between Oqaatsut and Ilulissat is a must-do! The trail is well marked with orange dots and is about 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) and is usually done in 6-7 hours.
Our boat shuttle leaves Ilulissat at 9 AM and after 30 minutes of sailing, we’ll reach the settlement of Oqaatsut (also known as Rodebay). The captain will point out the trailhead and give a brief introduction to the sights of Oqaatsut, where most hikers spend an hour exploring before beginning their hike. You can also decide to spend the whole day in Oqaatsut, but then make sure to book our afternoon shuttle back to Ilulissat.
Remember boots/shoes for hiking, warm clothes, gloves and a hat.
The hike is on a moderate level and can be done by anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.
