Any time you approach the Eqi glacier by boat, it is breathtaking.

On the stunning Greenlandic coast, a four-kilometer-wide and 200-meter-tall wall of ice emerges in between the mountains. Huge chunks of ice breaking off and hitting the ocean can be seen and heard from a great distance during the major calvings.

One of the largest calving glaciers in all of Greenland, the Eqi glacier, also known as Eqip Sermia in Greenlandic, is situated 70 kilometers north of Ilulissat.

Some of the first polar explorers in Greenland selected this location to investigate the ice sheet because it provides quick access to the ice sheet.
