With this tour, we explore a breathtaking ice cave tucked away on a secluded glacier on a picturesque small island in East Greenland and go on a glacier hike.
You can set out on your trip from Tasiilaq or Kulusuk. The excursion begins with a lovely boat ride to the glacier and lasts for approximately four to five hours. The small island is around 40 minutes’ journey from Tasiilaq and 20 minutes’ journey from Kulusuk.
We will have the opportunity to see stunning fjords, mountain ranges, ice bergs, and perhaps even some of Greenland’s amazing animals as we go across the ocean! If fortune favors us, we may come across orcas, seals, fin whales, humpback whales, or seals along the way.
When our local boat driver lets us off, your knowledgeable guide will show you how to use your safety gear. Crampons and helmets are included in this.
After that, your guide will lead you securely across the ice.
There’s a great view of the glacier, and you’ll have plenty of time to explore the ice cave’s unique features, like crevasses and moulins, during the short 30-minute walk there.
You will have plenty of time at the cave to immerse yourself in this fantastical blue world and appreciate all of its amazing nuances. We usually visit the cave for thirty minutes or so.
We want you to truly appreciate all the various and captivating shapes and tints the glacier creates, and to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We often get the cave and the glacier entirely to ourselves because we are the only business offering excursions to this cave, which adds to the uniqueness of the experience.
We will continue into the glacier after leaving the cave to reach a vantage point where we can see the glacier’s calving front. where icebergs are formed when the ocean and ice meet.
We will return to our boat, which will securely transport you back to Kulusuk / Tasiilaq, after another half hour of walking. We will have another opportunity to search for wildlife and enjoy the stunning surroundings on the way back.
