Go ahead and book your next adventure right now. We promise you — it will be one to remember!
This tour is ideal if you want to experience the unique opportunity of walking on a glacier, walking into a naturally created ice cave on a remote glacier in stunning Greenland, and getting an extra dose of adrenaline by trying your hand at ice climbing.
This tour covers everything that our Ice Cave + Glacier Walk offers, plus an introduction to the thrilling sport of ice climbing. It is designed for everyone, including those who are walking on a glacier and seeing crampons and ice climbing axes for the first time in their lives.
There is a maximum of 6 persons each excursion.
Our guides can customize every tour and change the climb’s difficulty level to suit the needs of the entire group.
You will meet your knowledgeable guide and the local boat driver in Kulusuk or Tasiilaq, where the four to five hour excursion begins.
From there, we have a lovely boat voyage ahead of us that will take 40 minutes (from Tasiilaq) or 20 minutes (from Kulusuk).
We will have the opportunity to see stunning fjords, mountain ranges, ice bergs, and perhaps even some of Greenland’s amazing animals as we go across the ocean!
Along the journey, if we’re lucky, we might come across orcas, seals, fin whales, and humpback whales.
After that, your guide will lead you securely across the ice.
There’s a great view of the glacier, and you’ll have plenty of time to explore the ice cave’s unique features, like crevasses and moulins, during the short 30-minute walk there.
You will have plenty of time at the cave to immerse yourself in this fantastical blue world and appreciate all of its amazing nuances. We usually visit the cave for thirty minutes or so.
We often get the cave and the glacier entirely to ourselves because we are the only business offering excursions to this cave, which adds to the uniqueness of the experience.
Your guide will locate a secure location where you can ultimately grab hold of the ice climbing axes, either during the journey to the cave or on the way back to the boat.
Once the anchor has been secured, your guide will show you the best technique, go over the fundamentals of ice climbing, and then lower you into a crevasse on a rope!
Then comes your chance to shine, try applying what you’ve learnt, and make your way back to the group’s rest.
You will have the opportunity to repeat this as often as you like. Our goal is for you to benefit as much as possible from the experience, have a feel for the technique, and possibly even make some progress.
It’s difficult to describe the sensation of actually dangling inside a crevasse, but it provides a different viewpoint on the ice you have been traveling on up to this point.
We shall return to the boat that will take us back to Kulusuk/Tasiilaq after your arms are fatigued.
We will have another opportunity to search for wildlife and enjoy the stunning surroundings on the way back.
This four to five-hour excursion offers a half-day of making lifelong memories by combining an exhilarating adventure with simple exploration of an enthralling ice cave.
