Exciting boat tour where we visit the abandoned settlement of Kangeq and the Island of Hope!
The Island of Hope is where the Danish and Norwegian priest Hans Egede started his colonization. Today you can still see the ruins of his first house on the Island.
During this tour, you’ll have the remarkable opportunity to venture into the deserted village of Kangeq, situated near The Island of Hope. This excursion is tailored for those eager to step into the shoes of the ancient Inuit and delve into Greenland’s colonial past.
For centuries, Kangeq thrived with inhabitants until the 1960s. Today, you’ll have the privilege of immersing yourself in the tranquility of Kangeq, bearing witness to historical remnants spanning countless generations. The renowned hunter and artist, Aron from Kangeq (1822-69), whose illustrations of Greenlandic legends and myths gained widespread recognition, began his creative journey in this abandoned enclave. The Inuit people were the original inhabitants of Kangeq, and you’ll have the chance to explore and marvel at the ancient Inuit ruins and vestiges.
If you would like to experience a “ghost town”, then this boat tour is for you.
