A Trip to Eqip Sermia
Join us on a full-day boat trip to the spectacular Eqip Sermia Glacier, one of Greenland’s most active and awe-inspiring calving glaciers.
Aboard the boat, our guide will share fascinating insights about the surrounding area, including the settlement of Oqaatsut, nesting birds, waterfalls, and the wildlife of the region, with the possibility of spotting whales along the way.
We spend about two hours in front of the glacier, where you’ll have a front-row seat to witness dramatic calving events as ice blocks break off and crash into the sea. Our guide will give an engaging presentation about the glacier and the surrounding area, and you will be served a delicious lunch prepared by Hotel Icefiord.
During the trip you are free to enjoy the indoor and outdoor viewing areas, and restrooms are available on the boat.

– Shuttle Service: Before departure, a shuttle bus will take you from the Disko Line Explorers office to the boat, and return you there after the trip.

Trip Duration
This is a full-day excursion. The journey takes approximately 2–5 hours each way, depending on the vessel. Upon arrival, we spend around two hours at the glacier front, allowing plenty of time to fully enjoy the experience.
Season
The trip runs during the summer season from mid-June to September. Even in summer, temperatures by the glacier can be low, so please dress warmly.
Language: Our guide/captain speaks English, Danish, and Greenlandic
Boat Type: Closed boat – Targa 37/44 or steel boat
Toilet Facilities: There is a toilet onboard
Recommended Clothing: : Warm clothes incl. hat and gloves all year. Sunglasses. Sunscreen during summer.

The ship typically also carries guests traveling to or from Glacier Lodge Eqi. If you’re interested in extending your trip with a stay in the Lodge, you can book accommodation through World of Greenland.
