This tour is a great introduction to one of the smallest big cities in the world!
Nuuk is a city, where old and modern cultures meet and thrive together.
The tour starts at the Colonial Harbour, nearby the National History Museum, where you might bear in mind to visit. It is a popular sight.
The city walk then passes by historic buildings, monuments, and statues, such as Hans Egede’s house, which is the oldest preserved house in Greenland and one of the first churches in Greenland. We make a short stop at the ‘Mother of the sea’ statue, and we hear the myth behind it. We will also see ‘the old hospital’ from the 1930’s.
Then we move on and stop by The Cathedral of Greenland (Annaasisitta Oqaluffia) and hear the history of it and of course, atop ‘Qaqqaq’ and the famuous Hans Egede’s statue.
Then we take a quick stroll by a fish-market, where you can see different fish and animals, all depending of the season – local hunters hunt by season and therefore you might see: reindeer, cod fish, rock bite roe, different berries, whale e.c.t.
At last we will enter the modern part of Nuuk where the government buildings are and the trip will end at ‘Katuaq’- cultural center house.
There will be small anecdotes along the trip.
Duration: 1- 1,5 hours (depending on the participant walking abilities
