Go ahead and book your next adventure right now. We promise you — it will be one to remember!
Join us for this wonderful excursion to one of the Disko Bay’s settlements: Oqaatsut, or Rodebay as it is also known as. Oqaatsut is located approx 20 kilometres north of Ilulissat, and lies on a peninsula that creates the most beautiful view of the drifting icebergs in the Disko Bay, the icy bay, and the snowcovered mountains.
The excursion begins with a boat tour from Ilulissat to Oqaatsut. When we arrive in Oqaatsut, we will go from the boat to the thick, thick ice and walk approx 150 metres over the frozen bay to Oqaatsut. The ice is so thick during the arctic winter, that it is completely safe to walk across it, and the hosts of H8 will help us all the way.
With our guide we will get our snowshoes and poles, and now we are ready to embark on our adventure through the thick layer of snow to see the untouched nature in Oqaatsut. We will stop at one of the many viewpoints and enjoy a warm beverage.
After the hike we will warm up again in Restaurant H8, where a lovely meal is served – made from some of Greenland’s tasty fish or meat.
There will be plenty of time to explore the settlement on your own; for instance the small shop in the settlement, the church or enjoying the view of the settlement with the many coloured houses.
After an eventfull day in Oqaatsut we will return by boat to Ilulissat.
The excursion lasts approx 6 hours in total. Boatshuttle to/from Oqaatsut, snowshoe hiking and lunch/dinner is included in the price.
We look forward to welcome you in Oqaatsut!
