Go ahead and book your next adventure right now. We promise you — it will be one to remember!
At the start of the tour, we are dropped off at the shoreline in Sermitsiaq Bay. We follow the river up on the right side. There will be some passages that are steep and you have to walk a little carefully. Then the route becomes easier again and we arrive at a large lake. Here we have lunch. Remember to fill your water bottle, as this is your last chance to fill it before the summit.
Now we have to go through the most difficult passages. Firstly, we have to climb up a steep mountainside with loose rocks. This will be a bit technical. To avoid getting rocks in the head, we will go up in two teams.
Then we have to pass through a small gorge, where we have to pass one at a time. This is the most technically difficult part of the trip and both legs and arms will be used.
After that, the climb is not quite as steep and the loose gravel is now replaced by large rocks all the way to the top. Although it can be a bit breezy at times, the terrain is not difficult here.
We go down the same way. Here it is (especially) important to take it easy so that we descend safely.
We take a break every 400 metres of altitude, which equates to once every hour.
We take ropes with us that we can use to help us get up difficult places.
CLOTHING
There are four situations to be aware of when it comes to clothing during the trip, and they are as follows:
THE SAILING TRIP
A flotation suit will be provided for the sailing trip, but you must bring your own gloves and hat.
THE ACTUAL TRIP TO THE SUMMIT
The trip lasts approximately 5 hours towards the summit, where you will be active. You will sweat, so it is important to dress appropriately for the hike.
I recommend that you wear hiking trousers or other trousers that are suitable for exercise. The key is that they are relatively windproof, as it can get windy and cold. For your upper body, I would recommend wearing a sweat-wicking sweater, such as a woollen sweater. You should also bring a windproof and waterproof jacket to wear if it gets windy or chilly.
BREAKS DURING THE TOUR
The trip is long and will require breaks along the way. That’s why it’s important to bring an extra sweater so you can change your sweaty shirt and keep warm while you take a break.
I would also recommend that you bring a warm jumper for breaks. This could be a fleece jacket, down jacket or a thick woollen jumper.
THE SAILING TRIP HOME
The journey home is often cold. Therefore, it is important to bring a change of clothes that you can wear during the sailing trip.
