We have a good talk about the Greenlandic sled dog, historically and now. The sled dog has been a companion for Arctic people for thousands of years, and is an important part of the Greenlandic cultural heritage.
In today’s Greenland, you only find the Greenlandic sled dog in East Greenland and north of the Arctic Circle in West Greenland. We will talk about what climate change is doing to the sled dog, about looking after and caring for the dog – and not least our wishes and dreams for this beautiful animal.
We will of course also talk about our equipment for sledding.
The dogs’ collars and chains must be checked and then the dogs must be fed. You are welcome to pet and hug all the dogs that show they want to.
The sled dog is a pet, but with good training and care, they can be as gentle as dogs you know from your homeland. The dogs have their own personality, some are more brave and love to meet new people than others. It is important to respect the dog’s signals.
Never approach dogs without asking the owner’s permission. We are present during your entire stay with the dogs, and we ask all guests to respect the rules we have for the dogs, this both for your safety and for the dogs’.
