Location: Ilulissat
The former Inuit settlement of Sermermiut, located one and a half kilometers south of Ilulissat, is surrounded by beautiful icebergs. Different Inuit cultures lived in this area for 4000 years, and there are still traces of their presence now.
Your guide goes back in time to before the Europeans arrived in Greenland and tells the stories of the Inuit people’s lives and traditions. See the remains of turf huts and feel the permafrost with your own hands (Note: This is not visible if there is snow).
In 2004, UNESCO designated the area as a World Heritage Site. Today, Sermermiut receives an estimated 30,000 visitors each year. As a result, there is a wooden pathway to protect the area’s delicate flora and wildlife from wear. This excursion is also made possible for everyone by the walkway, allowing anybody to join.
When visiting Ilulissat, a tour of Sermermiut is a must-do. We guarantee you’ve never seen anything just like it.
Please note
– Remember clothing according to the weather.
– We serve coffee and tea during the walk.
