Hvalsey Church Ruins

Less than an hour’s boat ride separates Qaqortoq from the Greenland Norse ruins of Hvalsey Church.

It’s a lovely boat ride to the island of Qaqortukulooq.

We enter the fjord known by the ancient Norse name “Hvalseyfjördur” after sailing through the sizable island of Arpatsivik, also known as Whale Island or “Hvalsey” in Norse, and passing it.
